Commonly Missed Networking Opportunities

I realize when I write about networking that I always find myself stressing the point that networking is real power in this world and to really take advantage of that power you should always be in network mode. Networking is perhaps the most powerful tool for success that you will ever have at your disposal and if you are not enjoying the success that you have always dreamed of having than you are not networking to your full potential.

You would be surprised by the number of opportunities people come across everyday to network and they simply are not aware of the chance that they just passed up. Some examples for you, at church of social club, talking to your neighbors, sitting in the waiting room at the doctors office, posting comments for messages in chat rooms or forums. These are just a few of the more common everyday situations that people encounter on a daily basis but never thing to work their networking skills. What about you, ever see yourself passing up opportunities like the ones I listed? Of course you have we all have and that’s the point there is always potential to grow your network we just need to learn to tap into that unseen market of growth.

My social networkWhen it comes to getting a job which is one of the most common goals of networking is to achieve a higher status in your job. Either through promotions or a new position at a new company. Who would you say has the advantage when it comes to two equally qualified candidates except for the fact that one has been referred by a respected employee? Of course the person that has the personal reference has the advantage the people who have to do the hiring would much rather go to a person that comes with a personal recommendation.

Remember one thing when you are networking is that it should be done with an open mind and your first priority should be what can you contribute to the group or conversation not what can you get out of it. It’s all about give and take and you need to be willing to give give give….. so when the time does come that you need help your network will be more than willing to help you in your time of need.
