Facebook And Twitter The Social Networking Giants

I was doing a little research for some headlines on the status of social networking sites. I came across a few articles discussing the past years results for the most popular social networking sites. Those of course being Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. I don’t think this is really a surprise to anyone that Facebook is with out a doubt at the top of the mountain for social networking websites. MySpace is in a solid second but wow how fast the mighty have fallen or shall we say how fickle popularity on the internet can be.

A great example of how fickle we internet surfers can be is the incredible rise that Twitter has seen in just the last year. From last April to April of 2009 the Twitter website has risen in popularity and traffic by over 3700%, WoW! That is some kick ass growth in one year if only the stock market could pull of some growth like that in one year. It still amazes me how popular twitter is and what a simple concept it is. There are no gadgets to it and no fancy tech to learn heck there is barely any graphics to the page.

I think that the folks over at Facebook were very wise to implement their version of a Twitter with Wall. If not for Facebook putting up that easy interface to see what your friends are up to I don’t know that Facebook would of had the growth that it has enjoyed in the last year. There is just something so addictive to reading those little blurbs about what your friends and family are doing on a daily basis. Be honest now for all you folks that have a Facebook account, where do you spend the majority of your time when you are logged into your account?
